Brighton City Guide

This cosmopolitan city, known as “London by the sea” is a very unique and popular location for stag dos and has a lot to offer – from the relaxing atmosphere of the pebble beach and the sea to the exciting night life.

Brighton is charming with a sophisticated chic, a lively beachfront, history and an eclectic mix providing anything you might need for a memorable experience. Start out your weekend relaxed on the beach or come back here after your exhausting stag night to chill out.

During the day

Are you interested in arts? Then you should definitely spend your stag weekend in Brighton in May. At this time of year, England’s biggest arts festival is held, which showcases arts and performances from around the world. And if you’re more into music: Brighton is also well known for its exciting music scene and hosts The Great Escape music festival. More the nature type of person? Discover the beautiful Sussex countryside, castles, country houses, parks, forts and gardens just moments from the city! Brighton also offers a lot of different museums, such as the Brighton Museum and Art Gallery.

Don’t forget to take a trip on the world’s oldest operating electric railway, Volk’s railway. And, naturally you will have to visit the UK’s oldest working cinema – the Duke of York’s Picture House, which shows alternative and mainstream films and was one of the first cinemas in the world.

Sporty people will enjoy themselves thoroughly in Brighton! From beach- and watersports like volleyball, windsurfing and sailing to basketball and walking and cycling activities, you’ll never be bored. You could even try some power watersports like waterskiing and wakeboarding. There is something for everyone in Brighton!

Eating out

The first thing that comes to your mind when you think about eating in a city near the sea? Fish, of course! Naturally, there are many very good and highly recommended fish restaurants in Brighton. But don’t worry, with more than 400 bars and restaurants in Brighton there are lots of alternatives at least as good and maybe even better for those who don’t like fish! After all Brighton has been named as the best English city to dine in outside of London.

If you’re looking for a relaxed, informal, predominantly seafood led dining experience promoting fresh, local and seasonal seafood the Fishy Fishy Seafood Brasserie is the right choice for you. A popular alternative is The Townhouse Restaurant, where you can listen to a jazz band while enjoying a tasty steak.

A must, also for non-vegetarians, is the Michelin Bib Gourmand 2009 award winner ‘Terre a Terre’, a vegetarian restaurant in the heart of the city. Try out one of their outstanding organic wines, beers or spirits to accompany the fantastically versatile menus from quirky sharing plates to multicourse set menus.

Those who like sushi and Japanese food should visit either the Moshi Moshi or the Oki-Nami, both being unique and very authentically.

And don’t forget to have some classic fish and chips on Brighton’s Pier.

Nightlife

As already mentioned, there are loads of different places in Brighton’s dynamic night life, which is often compared with London’s West End, where you can just have a few drinks or celebrate your last night of freedom until the sun comes up.

First of all you shouldn’t miss the Brighton Babes Cabaret Show, the only one of it’s kind in the area, taking place every Saturday evening from May to September in the heart of Brighton at The Planet night club. After a big buffet and a free shot at the bar you can sit down and enjoy a two-hour show which is full strip, sexy, sassy and really funny featuring two of UK’s best female strip acts and one of London’s Top Adult Comedians.

This number one must-see for every stag party includes a ticket to the number two on the list: the stag-friendly beach party at the Babylon Lounge along Hove Seafront where you can party with all of the hens that also regularly flood the city.

You could also start your stag do in one of Brighton’s pubs. Try out Pub du Vin, a traditional British pub  from the award-winning hotel brand ‘du Vin’; they serve local ales and stunning wines. Don’t worry – there are, of course, several beers on offer too.

The Providence is, being only about a £3 taxi ride away from the Babylon Lounge, the perfect pub for those who are thinking about visiting the beach party later on in the night.

And if you prefer something less “stag-orientated” you could consider a visit to the world’s famous Concorde 2 and the triple-storey Ocean Rooms or simply explore the unique, retro and fashionable bars that Brighton has to offer.
